TAN runs into KUEN as she is shopping with NING-ON. As usual, NING-ON and KUEN go tit-for-tat as soon as they see each other. Surprising NING-ON, he becomes friendly the minute she mentions YAN. TAN even goes so far as to leave at once. KUEN later tells NING-ON about TAN’s whirlwind marriage. It turns out that TAN met YAN when she was travelling in Fiji on her own and she was then very sick. Believing that her days were numbered, she told him her screwed up marriage as well as her unfulfilled wish. He proposed to her as soon as she had finished, and then carved their names on a piece of wood.
